1. Past Simple Tense

ใช้พูดถึงเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นและจบลงแล้วในอดีต

โครงสร้าง

• ประโยคบอกเล่า
  • Subject + V2 + Object.
  • She visited her grandmother yesterday.
• ประโยคปฏิเสธ
  • Subject + did not (didn’t) + V1.
  • She didn’t visit her grandmother.
• ประโยคคำถาม
  • Did + Subject + V1?
  • Did she visit her grandmother?

คำบอกเวลา (Time Expressions)

• yesterday
• last week / month / year
• ago
• in 2023
• this morning (เมื่อช่วงเช้าและเหตุการณ์จบแล้ว)

2. Past Continuous Tense

ใช้พูดถึงเหตุการณ์ที่กำลังเกิดขึ้นในช่วงเวลาหนึ่งในอดีต

โครงสร้าง

• ประโยคบอกเล่า
  • Subject + was/were + V-ing.
  • They were playing football.
• ประโยคปฏิเสธ
  • Subject + was/were not + V-ing.
  • They weren’t playing football.
• ประโยคคำถาม
  • Was/Were + Subject + V-ing?
  • Were they playing football?

คำบอกเวลา

• at 8 p.m.
• at that time
• while
• when

การใช้ When และ While  

1. While

ใช้กับ Past Continuous

โครงสร้าง

While + Past Continuous, Past Simple.

หรือ

Past Simple + while + Past Continuous.

ตัวอย่าง

• While I was studying, my brother watched TV.
• My mother cooked while my father was washing the car.

จำง่าย

While = กำลังทำอยู่ (V-ing)

2. When

ใช้กับ Past Simple เพื่อบอกว่าอีกเหตุการณ์หนึ่งเกิดขึ้น “แทรก”

โครงสร้าง

Past Continuous + when + Past Simple.

หรือ

When + Past Simple, Past Continuous.

ตัวอย่าง

• I was sleeping when the phone rang.
• When I arrived home, it was raining.

จำง่าย

When = เหตุการณ์สั้น ๆ เข้ามาแทรก

การใช้ร่วมกัน

เหตุการณ์หนึ่งกำลังเกิดขึ้น (Past Continuous)

แล้วอีกเหตุการณ์หนึ่งเกิดขึ้นแทรก (Past Simple)
